Help Us Close the Gap: The Need for Volunteers in Our Furniture Ministry

Oak Mountain Missions Delivery Truck
Oak Mountain Missions Delivery Truck

Oak Mountain Missions Ministries, has been delivering furniture to those in need since 2006.

We partner directly with the VA and homeless veterans whom are involved with the HUD-VASH program. This program provides Section 8 vouchers to homeless veterans and allows them to live more independent lives.

In addition to working with the VA we also partner with domestic violence shelters. In this partnership we are able to help provide furniture for women and families moving out of shelters and back into their own homes or apartments.

We believe that every veteran and survivor of domestic abuse deserves the dignity of a fully furnished home as they begin their new life!

To help insure that those we serve have the best start to their new lives as possible, we offer a wide range of home necessities from things as simple as can-openers to full sofas and dinning room tables. We deliver these items directly to those we serve at absolutely no cost to them. Sometimes these donations can be estimated up to a few thousand dollars worth of donations.

As we all know in 2020 things changed for all of us. Oak Mountain Missions was forced to stop making these deliveries. The Mission went from 125 deliveries in 2019 to only 28 deliveries in 2020. after 2020 Oak Mountain Missions struggled to recover it's volunteers and it's processes. Over the next 3 years we were only able to complete 15 delivers to veterans and survivors of domestic abuse.

Around September 2024 Oak Mountain started to focus on reviving its furniture ministry, working tirelessly, we were able to complete 67 furniture deliverers by the end of 2024. Now in 2025 we are hoping to continue in this direction of growth!

They key to this branch of our Mission is our timing. In a perfect setting, we have furniture stored and ready in our warehouse as well as kitchen necessities and important linens and towels. that way whenever one of our partners lets us know of someone moving into their new home we are able to deliver everything they need to furnish their new home. The fewest nights that these veterans or these families surviving domestic abuse have to spend in an empty home the better!

Unfortunately in our current season we are struggling with our timing, and our ability to quickly be of service to the urgent needs of those we are honored to serve. We are currently averaging a waitlist of anywhere between 8-10 families. Sometimes this means that it can be 2-3 months before we are able to deliver furniture to their new homes.

Yes the need for furniture is very high, but the donations in our community are also high. we are unable to keep up with demand due to a lack of man power.

This is where you come in! Oak Mountain Missions needs your help! There are so many ways you can help us!

First and foremost if you can Pray for our ministry and for the veterans and the survivors we serve! Praying that we can serve and honor whoever God allows us to with dignity and love.

Second if you can Share the Word of our efforts! share with your church, work, small groups, and anyone whom you think would want to help serve!

Finally you can Volunteer your Time and serve our neighbors directly. Below you can see if your availability matches with our current mission.

  • Oak Mountain Missions makes furniture deliveries every Saturday morning, directly to the new homes of the individuals and families we serve. Our Missions is blessed to have 2 box trucks with lift gates and our teams of volunteers are able to load and use these trucks to make deliveries every weekend. These teams are also able to pickup furniture from donors after preforming the deliveries

  • During Oak Mountain Missions normal operating hours. (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 8:30am to 1:00pm) we are able to pickup furniture donations from donors in our local community, This way we try to ensure that we have enough furniture to be ready to serve whenever those in our community have the greatest need.

If you are inspired to join our effort to serve the most vulnerable in our very own neighborhoods please reach out to oakmtnmissions_furniture@yahoo.com to see how you can be a part of blessings someone's brand new home!

*We are looking to expand our ministry so even if our current services don't match with your availability we want to talk with you and see i how we can best serve together.
